Everything There is to Know About Dermaplaning
Looking to get a great exfoliation that is still gentle on the skin? Well look no further! Dermaplaning is a great option that sheds layers off, revealing beautiful glowing skin. So what exactly is dermaplaning? Essentially, dermaplaning is shaving the face with a sharp, medical grade scalpel.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a skin rejuvenation treatment that removes dead skin and fine vellus facial hair (aka peach fuzz), producing more radiant, smoother looking skin. Our medical aesthetician gently glides a medical grade scalpel over the skin to remove unwanted dead skin cells and hair. The procedure is completely safe and pain-free with no downtime.
Dermaplane vs. Shaving
The main difference between a Dermaplane service compared to just shaving your face is the fact that dermaplaning uses a medical grade scalpel versus an at home razor. Therefore, dermaplaning is much more aggressive in terms of taking off dead skin cells and fine vellus hair. Another difference is that an at home razor consists of 2-3 blades whereas dermaplaning only has one single medical grade scalpel blade.

What can I expect during my dermaplaning treatment?
The first step in a dermaplane treatment is to cleanse the skin, ensuring a sterile and clean surface. Here at Allure Aesthetic Center we go over the skin with a peel prep to “strip” the skin of its natural oils to ensure the best results. The treatment begins along the jawline and we work our way up, keeping the blade at a constant 45-degree angle while the practitioner gently strokes the blade upwards. Moisturizer and SPF sunscreen is applied after each treatment to ensure proper hydration and protection.
Who should get dermaplaning done?
Dermaplaning is safe for every and all skin types and especially beneficial with those who have sensitive skin. There are, however, a few instances in which dermaplaning is not the right service for you such as inflamed acne, numerous raised lesions on the skin, open wounds, an allergy to nickel, use of Accutane within 6 months of treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my hair grow back darker and thicker?
Dermaplaning targets vellus facial hair which is fine and lighter in color than terminal hair. Because dermaplaning does not interact with the hair follicle itself, it cannot physically alter the growth pattern.
How do I take care of my skin after a dermaplaning treatment?
Once you have received your treatment the skin is quite vulnerable as the outer most layers have been shed off. It is important to use gentle cleansers and moisturizers for 2 days prior to your treatment.
Why should I get a dermaplane instead of other skin care treatments?
By removing the top later of dead skill cells there is a much smaller chance that these cells will get trapped inside your pores. This decreases the chances of breakouts as well as leaves the skin smooth and exfoliated.
How often should I get a dermaplane treatment?
It is recommended to get a dermaplane once every three to four weeks. Each time you receive a treatment we are removing about two to three weeks’ worth of dead skin cells.
